Art Docent
Are you interested in art and helping students to explore learning and being creative?
Consider becoming a volunteer with our Art Docent Program!
What is a docent?
A docent is a guide: we help students observe and engage with fine art, and lead in-classroom projects learning art concepts and technique together.
Our classroom docents will spend time in classrooms helping students complete various projects with a theme that ties in with the class. Projects and materials will be provided but we need YOU to help guide the students with these projects.
How much time?
About 2 hours per classroom every 4-6 weeks, projects will begin November/December.
A short, self-paced online training (required)
To access online training, see the attached document but here are the short notes:
Go to joinpd.com
Use a Gmail account
When asked, our school code is uch pfq
Meet the docents!
Tentatively save the date for Wed November 1 to meet our docents! We'll find the supplies, review tips for smooth projects days, and we'll make art together. Stay tuned!
Projects! Projects! workshops (optional)
Register now for a Projects! Projects! workshop on Mon November 6 or Tues November 7. Get ready to get messy--you're making art! You'll see what the projects are like we'll be doing in the classroom, it's a great confidence boost! https://www.greenrivercollegefoundation.org/ica-calendar
Approved volunteer status (required)
Also before projects start, you'll need to be approved as a volunteer with Renton School District. If unsure, check by completing the first step of the online application (name, contact). If not yet approved, you'll simply continue and complete the application.
More information, visit the Renton School District Volunteer Page
All training and workshops are FREE (you'll see an optional $5 donation suggested for Projects! Projects! to cover materials). I encourage registering for at least one of these!Â
That's a lot of material to start--please feel welcome reach out with any questions! Thank you so much, and excited to make some art with our students this year!
